      The “Northeast Asia Women's Peace Conference” is one of the ans wers, the “Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC)”, focusing on Northeast Asia, is another important movement. Ther e is always an alternative to promote peace through non ‐governmental organizations. The spread of infectious diseases can foster opportunities for international cooperation, even between rivals. During the Cold War, for example, American and Soviet scientists collaborated to develop and improve a polio vaccine. The unprecedented challenges posed by the novel coronavirus pandemic put in stark relief the need for enhanced international cooperation. Peace may depend on educating future generations into the competencies, perspectives, attitudes, values, and behavioral patterns that will enable them to build and maintain peace in 21st century.   Michael Wahid Hanna is a senior fellow at The Century Foundation. He is also a non-resident senior fellow at the Reiss Center on Law and Security at New York University School of Law. Hanna works on issues of international security, international law, and U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East and South Asia.

      Our projects deal with regional security (South Asia, East Asia), countering the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and institution building (peacekeeping, homeland security, Congress). The Stimson Center has a full-time staff of 50, which is complemented by interns, visiting fellows, and adjunct scholars.
